Once the heat of summer is upon us, we won’t be able to wait to go bare. Faced that is. But is our skin ready to meet the sunshine? It’s time to get prepared. Start by saying goodbye to rosacea, brown spots, facial veins, fine lines and wrinkles and a hearty hello to what we deserve: a radiant complexion, smaller pores, more even texture and stimulated collagen growth. How will this skin miracle happen, you ask? Easy. It’s Photorejuvenation light therapy, a laser treatment that will literally light up your face – in the best possible way. How? In a nutshell, IPL™ light encourages the production of collagen, a natural protein that fills in wrinkles, making the skin smooth and supple. The treatment works like magic, improving the colour, consistency and texture of the skin all at once. Even better, it involves little discomfort and no downtime. Plus, with each treatment, the results become more pronounced. Got questions? We’ve got answers.

Q: What is Photorejuvenation?

A: Photorejuvenation is a process in which light is used to rejuvenate and regenerate the skin. The intense pulsed light is absorbed by pigmentation and dilated capillaries in the treatment area. A series of treatments is used to correct hyperpigmentation, sun damaged skin, rosacea, uneven complexions, dull skins, mild acne scars, corrects dark circles around the eyes, and reduces fine lines. Pigmented lesions undergo a mild shedding and slough off within two or three days, while the vascular lesions blanch and then resolve within 10 to 14 days.

Q: What results can I expect?

A: After just one treatment, your skin will have a more even tone with a smoother look and feel. Sunspots will fade. Pore sizes will shrink. Fine lines and wrinkles will gradually decrease in size. These improvements will steadily increase with each treatment. Patients with rosacea will see a progressive decrease in redness.

Q: Does IPL Photo Facial Rejuvenation hurt?

A: Most clients describe the sensation to be like the snap of a rubber band on the skin as the pulses of energy are delivered through the handpiece. Some patients opt to have a topical anesthesia. After treatment, there is little if any pain.

Q: How long does the treatment take?

A: From beginning to end, the treatment lasts anywhere from 30-45 minutes.

Q: How many treatments are required?

A: Although each individual case varies, most individuals require anywhere from 1 to 5 treatments. The number depends on the severity of the condition treated and whether or not maintenance is required. This can be best determined through a consultation.

Q: What should I avoid after the treatment?

A: Sun exposure and tanning beds should be avoided post treatment, harsh products and excessive heat such as sauna or hot tubes immediately after treatment.

Q: What will my skin look like immediately after a treatment?

A: The skin may have a pink/red appearance (erythema) post treatment but shouldn’t last for more then a few hours if at all. Sun spots or hyperpigmentation may appear to be darker. Overall the skin may look and feel tight.

Q: Are IPL Photo Facial Rejuvenation treatments safe?

A: Yes. Advanced light systems have been used safely for millions of treatments worldwide. These systems treat only the targeted tissues, leaving the surrounding tissue intact. photo credit: MyTudut via photopin cc
