As I sit here drooling all over the grey Jeffrey Campbell lace-up boots on my feet while I’m wrapped in a cozy grey cardigan with my fingernails painted a lovely shade of greige, I realize something. I am the poster child for one of the season’s hottest hues (when I’m not wearing black or navy, that is).
Every fall, I seem to find myself in the same position – gravitating towards shirts, skirts, boots and bags in, wait for it, all 50 shades of grey.
While this year is no exception, the choices are even more exception-al than years past as all things grey and especially grey knits are breeding at Bayview Village. Let’s just say, while we’re usually quite black and white about fashion, this season we’re finding lots of grey areas to speak of, too, and we’re loving them.
Whether you’re drawn toward ash grey, gunmetal, dove grey or charcoal, consider this year’s grey to be a less harsh option than black. It’s also a very versatile neutral that can be worn with just about any shade in your wardrobe. While we’ve used ruby red here as our pop of colour, any jewel tone – cobalt, amethyst and emerald green, for instance – will elevate your greys and add a visual interest that is both rich and sophisticated. On the other side of the spectrum, grey also works wonders with soft, muted shades – especially pretty pastel pink.
In fact, you can count on grey to complement everything you already have in your closet and by that I mean anything white (especially a crisp white blouse), all that black (we know you have it) and, of course, anything denim. On second thought, maybe this is really more black and white than we’ve let on. It appears the only option when it comes to grey is . . . BUY! Just look at me.
