Here are three styles of jeans to update your look:

1.  All in a Day’s Work stevieWHY BUY IT: If you are going to own just one pair of jeans, this is it. Spend a little more for a premium brand, like the Stevie in Chicago Blue from Fidelity. Its mid-rise and slim leg flatters just about any body type.

HOW TO WEAR IT: This jean looks dynamite with a printed blouse (we’re crazy about the now-available-in-Canada Pleione line by Nordstrom) or a mixed media sweater, a skinny croc-stamped gold belt and a great pair of heels.

Insider Tip: Carry your flats in your purse in case your heels start to hurt. These jeans look equally great with high or low shoes.

2.  Night on the Town cn8565416WHY BUY IT: For a night out, a leather look is chic and new. It’s hard believe that enough time has passed that a trend from 2000 can make a resurgence, but here we are! A pair of coated denim can give a similar look with far more comfort and considerably less cost.

HOW TO WEAR IT: The Gap has a great pair for under $90. Wear with a silk blouse in the season’s hottest blush and a pair of ankle booties. We are still obsessed with the rag&bone Harrow style and similar styles can be found for far less here and here. Top it with and moto-style jacket in leather – like Fidelity’s genuine leather jacket in Onyx – or a chic knit from Banana Republic.

Insider Tip: Don’t carry a big day bag at night. Opt instead for a little clutch or cute pouch in a metallic hue.

3.  Weekend Casual axlWHY BUY IT: For casual denim, we are kicking the comfort into high gear. These go-to jeans are rolled up, washed out, worn in and feel oh-so-good.

HOW TO WEAR IT: Wear these with a great pair of sneakers, a cute pair of ballet flats or your sexiest heels. A little structure on top goes a long way to keeping this look pulled together – angular blazers or crisp collared shirts work best. Keep the distressing on the minimal side. A few rips are fine but steer clear of too-young gaping holes or paint splatters.

Insider Tip: The Fidelity Axl in Scorpion is a little lower rise but fits slightly looser in the waist. The thigh is not as baggy as the traditional boyfriend so you get the relaxed look without looking like you stole your actual boyfriend’s jeans.
