So you’re off to Miami to lie on the beach and stare at the palm trees. What else will you do in The Magic City? For starters, you’ll unwind, right before you shop and eat, shop and eat  – and, of course, do a little touring since you’ve already made the trip. So pack your best bathing suits and walking shoes, and get your appetite (and your wallet) ready. Here are our top 5 don’t-miss activities to enjoy in the Miami Heat.

STROLL LINCOLN ROAD Palme d'Or interior at the Biltmore Ah, South Beach. It’s the hottest spot for day (read shop) and night (read party) so make sure to make an appearance at the outdoor Lincoln Road mall. Take your time strolling down the pedestrian-only 10-block stretch of restaurants, cafes, shops, museums and art galleries that’s closed to traffic. When you’re about to drop, break to eat and people-watch outside or visit on Sunday when the road transforms into a buzzing farmer’s market.

GO SEGWAYING Miami SegwayHead to Miami’s exclusive Art Deco district by bike. Yes, you heard us. For something new and different, lace up your runners and hop onto a segway tour. You can spend your day gliding through Miami’s tropical take on art deco architecture when 1920’s buildings were built like ocean liners and checking out attractions you otherwise might not even know are there, such as the Bass Museum of Art, the Holocaust memorial and – get ready for it! – the Versace Mansion. You can also roll around South Pointe and pretend you live in one of the most  eye-poppingly luxurious homes in the world.

BAKE ON SOUTH BEACH south-beachMiami’s American riviera, otherwise known as SoBe, is lush with turquoise water and white sand and it’s every bit as chic as its namesake SoHo. The party runs all the way from 1 Washington Avenue to 21st Street. Grab your hat, sunscreen and book and crash or bring along a football and paddles to beach party it up with mojitos and beer. Craving a quieter scene – with less fabric and more skin? There’s also Haulover Nude Beach hiding in plain sight between the Intercostal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean.

SHOP BAL HARBOUR Shop Bal HarbourFor an upscale shopping and dining experience, dress up and spend the day at the moneyed Bal Harbour Shops, an elegant three floors of indoor-outdoor boutiques and restos. Get in line early at Carpaccio so you can snag a table for one of the finest Italian meals you’ve ever had. You’re likely to see stunning models meandering through the crowd, showing off high-end outfits from the mall’s shops. And keep your eyes peeled for celeb spottings. You’ll have to watch closely, though, because everyone looks like one at this place.

EAT, SEE AND BE SEEN Palme d'Or interior at the BiltmoreWe know you don’t want to compromise the bathing suit but dining out is a Miami must. There are so many buzzworthy restos – from South beach to Downtown Miami to Wynwood to the Design District – that it may be hard to choose. Choose you must, however, because in Miami, the nightlife scene is intertwined with the food. In the mood for succulent seafood? Joe’s Stone Crab is a 100-year-old Miami institution you need to visit and sushi lovers should check out the amazing Naoe. For steak, enjoy the classic Prime 112 and for high class French dining, treat yourself to Palme D’Or at the Biltmore Hotel. Well? What are you waiting for?   Featured Image: segwaymiami.com
