It’s cold, it’s dark, it’s time to hibernate. Which means you and your guy are ready to snuggle up under a blanket and have the cinema to come to you. But who wants to battle over the remote—and the movie picks? Not us, but that doesn’t mean we’re willing to settle for the latest action/adventure Shoot ‘Em Up either. We’re playing a strategy game of Movie Chicken that we’re determined to win and we’ve found the best of both worlds: a list of chick flicks he’ll watch. Because of course, when you’re feeling the winter blues, the only solution is a dose of romance. Don’t forget the popcorn! No movie is ever worth its, ahem, salt, without it.

7 CHICK FLICKS YOUR GUY WILL WANT TO WATCH

Mr. and Mrs. SmithMr & Mrs Smith

Starring: Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Adam Brody

John and Jane Smith, a couple in a stagnating marriage, live a deceptively mundane existence. However, little did they know that each has been hiding a secret from the other: They are assassins working for adversarial agencies. When the inevitable happens, and they are both assigned to kill the same target, Benjamin Danz , the truth is out. Finally free from their cover stories, these two discover that—lo and behold!—they have been assigned to kill each other, sparking a series of explosive attacks.

Why He’ll Watch: This may be a romcom but it’s also a thriller and a black comedy. There’s tons of action/adventure to satisfy his bloodthirst. Plus, this is the movie that started Brangelina, and not that he’s into gossip or anything, but…

Friends with Benefits

Friends with Benefits

Starring: Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake

Jamie is a New York-based executive recruiter who entices Dylan, an art director from Los Angeles, to take a job at the New York office of GQ magazine. Finding that they have much in common, the two become fast friends, and pretty soon, that leads to just a little bit more. Feeling jaded by a number of broken romances, Dylan and Jamie decide that they are ready to quit looking for true love because hey, that never works out, right? Instead, they focus on having fun—in bed. However, complications unfold when the two best pals get down and dirty for just a little too long.

Why He’ll Watch: Really? Do we have to explain? Mila Kunis? Friends with Benefits? But don’t worry, there’s enough JT to go around.

Knocked UpKnocked Up

Starring: Katherine Heigl and Seth Rogen

Rising journalist Alison Scott hits a serious bump in the road after a one-night stand with irresponsible slacker Ben Stone results in pregnancy. Rather than raise the baby on her own, she decides to give Ben a chance to prove he is Dad material. He’s pretty unsure he’s ready to be a parent, and both wonder if they would be compatible lifetime partners.

Why He’ll Watch: This Judd Apatow panty drencher—of the Depends kind—is so funny and teeters just on the edge of tasteful. We’ve labelled it chick flick because it stars romcom queen Heigl, but really it’s for anyone who appreciates a good dirty joke.

Leap YearLeap Year

Starring: Amy Adams, Adam Scott and Matthew Goode

When yet another anniversary passes without a marriage proposal from her boyfriend, Anna decides to take action. Aware of a Celtic tradition that allows women to pop the question on Feb. 29, she plans to follow her lover to Dublin and ask him to marry her. Fate has other plans, however, and Anna winds up on the other side of the Emerald Isle with handsome, but surly, Declan—an Irishman who may just lead her down another aisle to true love.

Why He’ll Watch: Amy Adams is adorably bumbling. And who could resist the beautiful landscapes of Ireland and charms of Matthew Good?  If he’s distracted by the entertaining cast of characters and ignores you sighing over the accents, all the better. This movie may be predictable, but there’s whisky. Oh, let’s be honest. He’ll watch because he loves you.

PS I Love You

PS I Love You

Starring: Hilary Swank, Harry Connick Jr. and Gerard Butler

When Gerry, the husband of Holly Kennedy, dies from an illness, she loses the love of her life. Knowing how hard Holly will take his death, Gerry plans ahead. Beginning on her 30th birthday, she receives the first in a series of letters written by him, designed to ease her grief and encourage her to move forward to a new life.

Why He’ll Watch: PS I Love You is super sad, a little funny, and not as sappy as you’d expect. The dialogue is smart and honest, and the ending a wee bit surprising. This movie made us fall harder for Ireland, and since we want him to come with us, that just solidifies our case. And if he doesn’t agree, we can use blackmail. Because that was definitely not something in his eye.

What's Your Number

What’s Your Number?

Starring: Anna Faris, Chris Evans, Zachary Quinto, and a cameo by Chris Pratt

Ally Darling is realizing she’s a little lost in life. Her latest romance has just fizzled out, and she’s just been fired from her marketing job. Then she reads an eye-opening magazine article warning that 96 percent of women who’ve been with 20 or more lovers are unlikely to find a husband. Determined to prove the article wrong, Ally embarks on a mission to find the perfect mate from among her history of ex-boyfriends.

Why He’ll Watch: This romcom doesn’t take itself too seriously and definitely steps into the territory of gratuitous shirtlessness. Plus, Anna Faris is cute (and we’re told hot) which means that he won’t notice you drooling over Chris Evans. He’ll be so busy laughing, he won’t realize he’s watching a movie made for girls.

Love and Other Drugs

Love and Other Drugs

Starring: Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway

Handsome pharmaceutical salesman Jamie Randall always has good luck with women. A chance encounter with Maggie Murdock, a free-spirited Parkinson’s patient, leads to a sexual relationship. As Jamie and Maggie become closer, each must question if a serious commitment is in their future.

Why He’ll Watch: This one is offbeat and smart, and is proof that even the most scandalous rogues can fall in love (sigh). The script is great, there’s lots of nudity, and a few laughs too. Basically everything he’s looking for.  Basically, it’s romcom for braniacs. And did we mention there’s nudity?
